About the position
Reporting to the CEO and forming part of the Senior Leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing risk management, compliance and legal advice across the business. You will ensure that MTF's risk and compliance frameworks are robust, comprehensive, and aligned with the business strategy.
Leading a functional team of seven, you will provide advice, guidance, and direction on risk compliance matters; and ensure MTF have a strong and commercially sound approach to legal matters. The role requires you to build and maintain credibility and professionalism among internal, external and Franchise stakeholders including in an advisory capacity to the MTF Board and its sub-committees. Some of your responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the MTF business – you'll have a professional reputation as a capable and inspirational leader, creating a culture of accountability, empowerment and high performance in your own functional areas; and as a collaborative and effective senior leader with your peers.
- Drive initiatives in The MTF Way – you’ll exemplify the desired behaviours and values, be a promoter of a high-performance culture, and embed best practice contemporary processes that will drive strategic priorities across the business and motivate and engage our people.
Functional leadership:
- Implement, embed and enhance an enterprise-wide risk management framework, including reporting and analysis, and leading initiatives that effectively manage impacts threats and vulnerabilities and highlights opportunities for the business.
- Develop and embed the MTF compliance programme, ensuring this reflects the strategy and that we have effective and fit-for purpose training, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms.
- Lead a commercial astute legal team to support key business initiatives.
Communication and business reporting:
- Ensure the business has rigorous and transparent risk and compliance metrics and dashboards for governance reporting.
- Provide compelling business updates and thought leadership around risk and regulatory trends.
- Provide comprehensive and accurate reporting for CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board and its committees.
External Stakeholder Management:
- Lead the MTF relationship with Regulators and Industry Bodies, ensuring the business builds strong professional relationships and establishes credibility.
- Collaborate with external advisors to enhance risk management capabilities.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure company readiness to comply.
- Build relationships with shareholders, franchises, dealers and key partners to support the business strategy.
Operational Management and Leadership:
- Monitor financial budgets and resources, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Evaluate performance, investment, and operational effectiveness.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery, efficiency, and Values-driven behaviour.

You’ll have the following minimum qualifications and technical experience:
- Bachelor's degree in law, finance, or business administration, ideally with a professional certification in Risk or Compliance or evidence of relevant professional development and application.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a senior regulatory role within the New Zealand or Australian financial services sector.
- Sound knowledge of New Zealand regulatory requirements and industry best practices and implementing these into commercial programmes of work (e.g., CCCFA, Privacy, and Anti-Money Laundering rules, Privacy Act and other relevant regulations).
