“The MTF Future Legends Scholarship win has enabled me to represent New Zealand on the international stage while developing my racing against the best junior riders in the world”, Buchanan says.
Since February Buchanan has been living in Spain preparing for the Red Bull Rookies Cup which kicked off in April. Racing alongside the best in the MotoGP world has given him the opportunity to hone his skills at an international level.
“The racing has been epic. My best qualifying was in Germany last weekend (June 2022) where I was P5 on the grid and raced with the front-runners in both races. My best finish was P11 - just over a second from a podium finish, which shows how close and intense the racing is. I have also been competing in the European Talent Cup as part of the FIM Junior GP, with events held in Spain and Portugal. At the Barcelona round, I finished in the points for the first time and clocked the fourth fastest lap time in the race.”
Buchanan has been on a steep learning curve this year as he gets to grips with the demands of being an elite athlete in a professional racing environment. He’s competing against the best young racers in the world and feels privileged to be able to fly the Kiwi flag in the highly competitive championships.
“My racing is progressing strongly, and I am learning all the time. It fuels my desire to be the best I can be, so get your scholarship applications in! This is a fantastic opportunity to receive support from MTF Finance so you can keep chasing your goals”.
