Equity is not just a goal—it’s our standard. We believe that a fair, transparent, and competitive remuneration framework is the foundation of a truly inclusive workplace. Through our partnership with Strategic Pay, we’ve established a remuneration structure aligned with market benchmarks and a culture of performance. Each role is assessed against New Zealand market standards, ensuring we remain competitive in both fixed and total remuneration.

The results speak for themselves. Our journey to reducing the gender pay gap from 16% to less than 2% is a testament to our commitment to fairness and equality. While others may have ‘minded the gap,’ we acted. We saw the disparity, and we made the changes needed.

Addressing pay equity is no small feat, and it requires continuous effort. In New Zealand, historical inequities have disproportionately affected underrepresented groups, including women and migrants. By leveraging services like Strategic Pay, we have created an ongoing accountability framework that benchmarks our progress and keeps us striving for better outcomes.

As of September 2024, the average fixed remuneration across our National Office team sat above than the national market median, with an overall difference between males and females less than 2%. But we see pay equity as more than just a metric—it’s a fundamental shift toward a workplace culture that champions fairness, recognition, and support for all.

Achieving gender equity extends beyond fair pay. It’s about creating pathways for leadership, visibility, and professional growth. We have made significant strides in ensuring gender diversity at the senior leadership level, fostering an environment where strong representation inspires future generations of leaders.

Our Tomorrow’s Leaders Development Programme is one such initiative, designed to elevate and empower talented individuals to step into leadership roles and make an impact. By investing in our people, we are shaping a future where leadership is defined by capability, not by barriers.

We understand that work and life overlap. We are proud to be registered with Go Crayon, a New Zealand-based platform that provides essential financial tools and resources to help employees and employers navigate parental leave.

In 2025, we introduced another game-changing initiative: our Cultural Holiday Transfer policy. We recognise that New Zealand is home to a beautifully diverse community, and while many migrants embrace Kiwi traditions, they also bring their own rich cultural heritage. This policy allows employees to shift public holidays to dates of personal significance—ensuring that our people can celebrate what truly matters most to them.

The road ahead

While we are proud of the progress we’ve made in closing the gender pay gap and fostering an inclusive workplace, our journey doesn’t stop here. True equity requires ongoing dedication, accountability, and action.

At MTF, we will continue to champion diversity, support our people, and build a workplace where everyone - regardless of gender, background, or role - feels recognised, represented, and fairly rewarded. We provide opportunities for everyone to learn and grow here. We recognise that one size doesn’t fit all. We empower our people to make choices that work for their own lives. This extends to leave, where our people have the option of an additional week paid leave.

We’re building a future where every MTF team member feels valued, empowered, and inspired to succeed.
