Held over three sun-soaked days at Pourerere Beach this past weekend, the competition brought the community together to celebrate Possum’s love of fishing, while raising much-needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand.
With incredible local support, the event raised over $4,000 towards Cystic Fibrosis awareness and supporting initiatives. Beyond the main competition, families enjoyed a kids' sandcastle competition, adding to the festival-like atmosphere of the weekend.
Joel Hintz, well-known for his role as a prop for the Hawke’s Bay Magpies, and his wife Beka are passionate about giving back to the region they call home. Their commitment to community-driven initiatives has cemented MTF Napier as more than just a finance provider – it’s a business that truly cares about its people.
This sponsorship follows another significant community contribution from MTF Napier. Just two weeks prior, they backed the Hawke’s Bay Megafish competition in Napier, sponsoring a $500 cash prize for the ‘Hard Luck’ story. The prize was awarded to an unfortunate fisherman whose Minn Kota motor fell off their boat—because nothing says "great day on the water" like watching your motor swim away without you.
“We love being part of these local events,” said Joel Hintz.
“It’s not just about sponsoring competitions, it’s about supporting our community, creating connections, and making a difference.”

MTF Napier continues to play a key role in fostering community spirit and supporting causes that matter to Hawke’s Bay locals. With Joel and Beka Hintz at the helm, their dedication to both sport and community initiatives ensures MTF Napier remains a valued part of the region.
